Bath progress and Cypress

It has been beautiful weather here lately, it is hard to be inside when the weather is so inviting. However work must go on and I glued up the sash windows and door for the shower. I have to sand them, apply finish, order glass, make stops and then install, but I moved onto to something else.

Today Becky finished setting the tile for the shower and it looks amazing. I can't wait to see what it looks like with grout. I have a few more tiles to cut for the curb, I should do that sooner than later. Also in the bathroom, with Oliver's help we installed crown molding that we salvaged from another room in the house.

I started to pull cypress for bathroom cabinets. This cypress is two inch slabs I had milled a few years back. These particular limbs were cut because of PG & E. When we upgraded the power at the barn they decided to re-route the power line so that it went right between an old line of cypress trees. I fought the idea but failed to convince them that the old way of running the wire was perfectly fine. At least now they won't hack at the live oak that the line was next to before. In order to run the wire another route I had to cut a huge limb. I didn't feel comfortable cutting the limb so I asked a friend who worked for Davey Tree to cut the limb for me. The limb sat on the ground for a couple years until I finally cut it into shorter lengths and hauled it to a sight to have them sliced into slabs. Some of the wood is funky but other slabs are beautiful, it is exciting to be cutting into my own home grown lumber.

Bi-Fold, Fire-Ball & Shower

Rain, sweet rain. One of my favorite things to do is put on rain pants and coat, rubber boots and a hat and walk in the rain. Especially along the creek there are so many sweet smells, the leaves on the ground are soggy and I can move undetected by the wildlife, at least I like to think so. Today was one of those days, our wet and stormy winter is finally here, hopefully to stay a while.

In the shop I glued up bi-fold doors for J + K, I will probably install on Monday. These doors required the best of the cypress that Greg and I milled from slabs, the height of the doors is nearly 8 feet and the larger panels are 4 feet long by about 10 and 12 inches. I book matched the panels and the long stiles are not even close to straight so I am curious how they will hang. Hopefully the panels straightened them out some when they were glued up.

I acquired a vintage Fire-Ball trailer yesterday, about 16 feet long. The roof leaks a bit and the floor has a big hole but the cabinets and appliances are in great shape. I haven't figured out the year yet but I am guessing mid to late 60's. This was a freebie, how could I turn in down, add it to the list of projects right. Well I hope to work on it sooner than later, I was scoping out the roof today. I hope to patch the floor soon to keep the critters out.

I'm still pushing ahead on the house, I drafted bathroom vanity plans for the bathroom downstairs this evening. Tomorrow I plan on starting on the sashes and door for the shower. The sills and jambs are in and the tile is about 85% installed. One more session and the tiles will be set and then ready for grout. Becky has done an awesome job setting the tiles while I cut them for her and clean the tools and buckets.
